Members of the ASCDS’s African Seniors Advocacy Network recently organized a picnic at Toronto Island Park. The fun filled summer event on Saturday August 6th, 2011 brought together fourteen African elders from across Toronto to enjoy a sunny afternoon at the Island. For several of the seniors, this was their first trip to Toronto Island – making it a memorable event. The outing provided a recreational opportunity for the otherwise home bound seniors to get out and enjoy one of Toronto’s biggest attractions. Lunch was served under the shadow of an oak tree where the seniors spent the rest of their time on the island, as they shared in laughter and enjoyed the beautiful scenery around the island.
